Eyelid Inflammation (Blepharitis)

Eyelid Inflammation (Blepharitis) Overview

Blepharitis (BLEH-fuh-REYE-tis) is swelling and/or irritation of the eyelid, resulting from a bacterial infection, inflammation, or allergies. It is the most common eye disease.

  • During sleep, drainage may cause eyelashes to "glue" together. Your eyes may burn, itch, and swell. You may also lose eyelashes.

  • Blepharitis usually takes several months to clear up but responds well to treatment.
