Asperger Syndrome (cont.)

Exams and Tests

An interdisciplinary team is generally required for a comprehensive clinical assessment. This comprehensive evaluation should include a psychological assessment (including, at a minimum, intellectual and adaptive functioning), a communication evaluation (particularly focused on nonverbal forms of communication), and a neurological/psychiatric/medical evaluation. Intellectual (IQ) testing may be of specific help, since verbal IQ scores are often significantly higher than performance IQ scores for children with Asperger syndrome.
