My son has had flu like symptoms when he also had a tonic clonic seizure. Since then he has had days off with headaches, fatigue and tonsillitis, only to discover he has glandular fever (which explained the swelling of his neck, stiff shoulders and puffy face). Unfortunately he was admitted to hospital as his breathing and O2 levels were dipping way low. Soon after this his X-ray showed pneumonia. The tonsillitis and fever had spread quickly to his lungs and he was having difficulty breathing.

Within 24 hours I was severely sick with a cough and I had a hard time breathing. I was in the hospital for 3 days. I should have stayed 4-5.The IV treatments and breathing meds helped me heal. The bed was so uncomfortable, I could not sleep. I drank about a gallon of fluid a day. I didn't eat much. I am or was a smoker. I totally quit after this.

I was ill for just one day with flu-like symptoms, then I was left with a chesty cough. After having this cough for three weeks I suddenly developed a very painful, crippling stabbing pain in the right of my chest. It was so very painful to move. I went to my doctor who said I had a chest infection, put me on a weeks' course of antibiotics and sent me for an x-ray. The results showed I had pneumonia in the right lung. I had completed the course of antibiotics and expected to get more but my doctor said what was left of the infection would clear on its' own and may take 2-3 weeks. I have to go back in 4 weeks for him to listen to my chest and from that he will decide whether I need a repeat x-ray. I have never experienced anything more painful in my life. I have been in contact with a baby with cryptosporidium and was changing the baby's nappy for three weeks and I am wondering if I could have developed pneumonia from that.

I recently developed bacterial pneumonia. I had "no" symptoms. No fever, no coughing, only fatigue, but I'm an active person and have fatigue often. Being a veteran I receive medical care at the VA. I had a scheduled appointment to have an eye examination. While in the eye clinic I took a drink of water and could not breathe. I was rushed to the ER around the corner from the eye clinic and put on oxygen. That's the last thing I remember. I was transported to the local hospital, put on life support and awakened 11 days later. They diagnosed me with bacterial pneumonia and drew 750cc's of fluid out of my right lung. My respiratory system shut down as well as my kidneys. I was ventilated twice during the 11 days on life support and was on a number of medicines to clear up the infection. I had an infection in my body that I was unaware of and therefore, went untreated. How long? I do not know. They say the infection then traveled to my blood stream and the rest is history. I was in the hospital for 16 days, couldn't walk or write after coming off life support. It has now been five weeks, all my tests are normal, I am walking and writing and my old self once again with the exception of my stamina, which is also returning. I had a very close call. I understand there is a pneumonia injection, good for five years, which you can have administered for my peace of mind and definitely plan on getting it as soon as I am physically able..

I became ill in June with a fever of 101 with shaking chills and generalized body aches. The fever persisted for 4 days. I had no respiratory symptoms, no cough, no shortness of breath and was not coughing up any mucus. I felt progressively worse as the week went by. I saw my physician who listened to my lungs and they were clear. She thought it was a virus but, just in case, sent me for a chest X-ray and put me on an antibiotic. The X-ray revealed pneumonia which had affected 2 lobes of my lung. We were all pretty shocked that I had this since it was summer and I didn't have any respiratory symptoms. I am young and healthy.

My symptoms of pneumonia started out like an allergic reaction when I went back to work after a July 4th holiday weekend. I thought my wife switched brands of laundry soap but she didn't. I had red itchy welts all over my body. After a week it went away but I still felt weak and tired. As time progressed I was coughing up yellow/brown mucus that was thick and I coughed a lot. I had night sweats where I would soak a pillow. I kept going to bed earlier and earlier as time went on. I got to the point where I had no energy and had a hard time breathing. I finally went to the emergency room the week after Labor Day and guess what? I was in the hospital for two weeks. I had to take antibiotics every six hours for six weeks then oral antibiotics for two weeks. I had a chest tube in me for 4 months and just had it removed January 12 2010. I go back to work this next week after over 7 mounts out of work!

I recently had pneumonia. I had a high fever, accompanied by coughing and shortness of breath. I was treated in the ER and then I was admitted to the hospital for four days. The doctors advised me that this can take a month to clear up.

I began to feel tired Friday evening. By Saturday had shaking chills, and even with eight blankets and space heater, nothing helped. I had a fever over 103. I went to the doctor on day 6 and I was diagnosed with bacterial pneumonia in left lung. This was a TOTAL surprise since I've never been sick in my life!
