What Are Some Possible Side Effects of Brompheniramine?

Antihistamines are typically well tolerated, and serious side effects are rare. The more common side effects are usually mild and may go away.

  • The combination of an antihistamine with a decongestant, such as pseudoephedrine, may cause insomnia or anxiety.


  • Antihistamines are more likely to cause dizziness, excessive sedation, lightheadedness, and low blood pressure in elderly individuals.


  • Caution is needed with hazardous tasks or tasks requiring coordination, such as driving, riding a bicycle, or operating machinery.


  • Urine retention, dry mouth, headache or blurred vision may occur.


  • Brompheniramine may thicken bronchial secretions (caution with asthma).


  • Brompheniramine may alter blood pressure or heart rhythm.
