Buchu

How does Buchu work?

It is thought that the active chemicals in buchu may act as an antiseptic and decrease fluid retention.

Are there safety concerns?

Buchu may be unsafe when used as a medicine. It may cause liver damage, irritate the stomach and kidneys, increase menstrual flow, and cause abortions in pregnant women.

Do not take buchu if:
  • You are pregnant or breast-feeding.
  • You have a kidney infection.
  • You have a urinary tract inflammation.
  • You are scheduled for surgery in the next two weeks. Buchu might increase the risk of bleeding.
