Wellbutrin, Wellbutrin SR, Wellbutrin XL, and Zyban are the brand names. Bupropion is the generic name. Wellbutrin is a medication used to treat depression and belongs to the class known as atypical antidepressants. It is typically prescribed for depression when selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) are not able to be used or are not effective.
