Bupropion (Wellbutrin) (cont.)

Who Should Not Take Bupropion?

  • Individuals who are allergic to bupropion        


  • Individuals who currently have a seizure disorder or have had seizures in the past


  • Individuals who are currently taking, or have taken within the past 2 weeks, MAOIs such as phenelzine (Nardil) and tranylcypromine (Parnate) (Do not take MAOIs for at least 2 weeks after stopping Wellbutrin.)


  • Individuals currently taking other bupropion products


  • Individuals who have abruptly stopped long-term use of alcohol or sedatives and may be at risk for withdrawal


  • Individuals with a current or prior diagnosis of anorexia or bulimia


  • Children (Wellbutrin has not been approved for treatment in children.)
