Calamus

How does Calamus work?

It is thought that chemicals in calamus cause muscle relaxation and sedation.

Are there safety concerns?

Calamus is not safe when taken by mouth. It can cause kidney damage, shaking, and seizures.

Do not take calamus if:
  • You are pregnant or breast-feeding.
  • You are scheduled for surgery in the next two weeks. Calamus might cause excessive sedation if combined with medications used during and after surgery.
