I find that rinsing my mouth with salt water is the best way to reduce canker sores. I always do it at night before I go to bed, using dissolved salt in warm water. 1 tsp. to cup of warm water. (The warmer, the better).

As a long time sufferer with canker sores I was happy to find that using a Waterpik both dramatically reduced the frequency of sores and also is an effective treatment. Prevention involves turning the pulsing stream of water or the mucus membranes on a daily basis. Treatment involves directing the pulsing stream, at low pressure, directly on the sores for 10 to 20 seconds. This stings a little but otherwise reduces pain and promotes healing.

My canker sores occur whenever I get cold or flu symptoms or eat foods with acid in them such as strawberries, oranges, grapefruit etc. They usually last 7-10 days, occurring on the side of the mouth or tongue, all of which are very painful. I have not tried to treat them but always 'toughed it out' during the episodes. I got on the internet this evening and it appears that benzocaine products are recommended and will them a try.

Thank you, Zachula, for your recommendation of whole cloves to treat canker sores. I have tried everything the drug store has to offer and have never found anything to work as well or as fast as the whole clove. I am amazed and very happy. Related Reading: clove

I frequently develop canker sores. I have noticed that continuous caffeine consumption (days at a time), irregular sleeping habits, and heavy alcohol consumption all lead to my outbreaks. Unfortunately, the three usually happen in unison and I spend several days nursing my sores.

I've had recurring canker sores only on the right side of my tongue. Mostly on the side and underneath. It started when I lost part of one of my bottom molars which causes me a lot of tooth pain as well, especially cold things.

I get canker sores on the back of my mouth and on my throat which makes eating and swallowing painful. Thank God for Chloraseptic spray which immediately numbs the area better than anything else I've tried. Must Read Articles Related to Canker Sores

Most frequently, they develop after I've bitten the inside of my cheek or tongue. Although, there have been times when I've developed one sore and then other develop near it. I have tried all types of home remedies, but frequent rinsing seems to help the most.
