USES: This medication causes the uterus to contract and is used for the termination of a pregnancy. It is also used to help control severe bleeding after giving birth.

HOW TO USE: This medication is given into a muscle (IM) as directed by your doctor. The dosage depends on your response to therapy. The total dose should not exceed 12 milligrams when used for termination of pregnancy or 2 milligrams when used to control bleeding after giving birth. This drug should not be used for more than 2 days. Follow all instructions for proper use. Consult your pharmacist. This medication should be checked visually for particles or discoloration before use. If present, do not use the liquid.

SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, diarrhea, flushing, and fever may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: headache, stomach/pelvic pain, cramps, coughing, chills, breast tenderness, muscle aches. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: unusual vaginal bleeding or discharge, muscle stiffness, weakness, drowsiness, dizziness. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: trouble breathing, trouble swallowing, unusually fast or slow pulse, mental/mood changes, vision changes. If you notice any other effects not listed above, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: lung problems or trouble breathing (e.g., asthma), high or low blood pressure, kidney or heart problems, bleeding problems, seizures, anemia, pelvic infection, uterus problems, diabetes, liver problems (e.g., jaundice), any allergies. Limit the use of alcohol, as it may aggravate certain side effects of this medication (e.g., dizziness, drowsiness). Use caution when performing tasks requiring alertness (e.g., driving). This medication should only be used during pregnancy to end the pregnancy (resulting in fetal death - See Uses section). Consult your doctor for more details. It is not known whether this drug is excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
