This goes to any parent that is concerned because his/her child has cerebral palsy. I was born with mild cerebral palsy affecting both of my legs. I have had surgery to lengthen my hamstrings which has helped immensely. I don't consider CP a disability because I've never excluded myself from any physical activity. I wrestled varsity in high school. When I work out I do all of the exercises that any average gym member would do. My best advice would be to not worry so much about the restrictions because your child can push past them.

Our son was born 31-32 weeks gestation! He weighed in at 4lbs, 1oz. He had to be on a ventilator for 12 hours because his oxygen levels got seriously low. He spent 23 days in the NICU. When he came home we noticed how stiff his arms were. It was very hard to dress him. He salivated excessively and still does this as a young man! He never did crawl! He did and army type of crawl until he walked with assistance at age 2! He also had crossed eyes which he had two surgeries to correct. He had two major orthopedic surgeries as well. He has worn wire leg braces most of his life until he decided he wasn't going to anymore! He will me a sophomore in college this year!

I am a Ugandan and I live in Kampala. I only have a daughter and I live with my wife. She gave birth at 8 months and 2 weeks by a natural birth. My daughter is one year, nine months. She is intelligent and bright. She has delayed milestones such as controlling head, rolling over, reaching with one hand, sitting without support, crawling, and walking. I cannot pick anything out of what she talks.

I have cerebral palsy as well as hydrocephalus. I had a shunt put in when I was 24, and I still wonder to this day why I have it. CP has not stopped me from living my life.

My son had a head lag until nine months, used only his left arm, unable to roll over sit or stand! He has screaming episodes and is yet to sleep through the night! He had all the genetic tests and they were all clear! MRI diagnosis was cerebral palsy in all 4 limbs!
