Chitosan

How does Chitosan work?

Chitosan is extracted from the shells of shrimp, lobster, and crabs. It is a fibrous substance that might block absorption of dietary fat and cholesterol.

Are there safety concerns?

Chitosan seems to be safe for most people. It might cause mild stomach upset, constipation, or gas.

Chitin is extracted from the shells of shellfish. People with shellfish allergies might be allergic to chitosan.

Do not use chitosan if:
  • You are pregnant or breast-feeding.
  • You have a shellfish allergy.
