I'm not sure what I have but have had stomach problems since my late teens. A doctor told me I had colitis about 4 years ago. I don't have vomiting or terrible bouts of diarrhea. I do experience stomach pain in places and in waves with a touch of fever and I have or feel like having a bowel movement often.

As an RN, I thank you for this excellent article. I have been diagnosed, twice with microscopic colitis, once w/lymphocytic colitis as a result of C. diff from antibiotic over prescribing and treatment w bismuth therapy. I had massive diarrhea, a negative stool culture but a good response to Flagyl, and kept myself hydrated and out of the hospital.

I was diagnosed first with irritable bowel syndrome there isn't a cure for it so I would just deal with certain weird feelings in my stomach I was also taking a anti bacterial medication 3 days after taking the medication, I started having stomach aches first light then slowly got more severe aver a few days then I wasn't digesting anything and still felt like going to the restroom 4 or 5 times a day one of my days I got sensitive skin like I was going to get a fever but it went away I had bad diarrhea and my stool changed a weird bright brown color then eventually there was blood mixed in with it. It was time to see a doctor! My doctor diagnosed a inflamed colon and gave me magnesium for the pain (over the counter drug ) . After taking the first pill, there was immediate relief. It's not 100% gone, but it's at least bearable.

I woke up at 3am with violent vomiting and non-stop diarrhea. This was followed by severe stomach pain coming in waves. I went to the hospital where I was diagnosed with colitis.

I was diagnosed 2 years ago with ulcerative colitis. I am now 61. My health is otherwise good. Two days ago, my UC reappeared with bad cramps and bloody stools. I went to the ER, on advice from my doctor. Doctors performed a CT scan and the diagnosis was correct: mild colitis. Next week I am going for my 4th colonoscopy. I was not put on antibiotic. The bloody stools are gone and the pain has subsided quite a bit. I hope this stays away for a long time, as it was very painful.

I am 29 and I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis just over 2 years ago. I have always had problems with my bowels since being a child. 2 years ago I started with a throat infection and I was given 2 different antibiotics which didn't work as I started taking the antibiotics I suffered bad diarrhea, weight loss, a mouth full of ulcers and no energy, I went to the doctor who took one look at me and sent me to hospital. I was put on steroids amongst other tablets and given a IV drip. After a week in hospital and many tests they confirmed I had UC. I have good and bad days and I'm currently on 15 tablets a day and still going to the hospital to see the doctor as they don't know what to do with me. Related Reading: weight loss | steroids

Had a baby in 2007 by c-section. Came home on my hands and knees trying to tend the baby b/c I was in so much pain. Had constant diarrhea and constant abdominal pain on the left side. I have been to the doctor several times and they said I was fine. Finally went to the hospital and four months later they did a CT scan and diagnosed me with colitis. Haven't seen the doc again yet but got the report from medical records. I have constant pain on the left side of my stomach and the best way I can describe it is it feels like a blood pressure cup constantly squeezing me. Very painful!! I was diagnosed with ulcerative colotis in 1993. I am now 60 yrs of age. I have had several Flare up over the past years. I have a regular coloscopy every year, but always clean. i was on Pentasa, one time my family dr. put me on pretsone, which cured, but side effects were awful. I am now having a bad flare up. I have trouble going to bathroom. It is usually only gas. I am seeing a lot of blood, which still scare me. I normally don't have any stomach pain. I don't know what brings those flare ups on, but they draim me . I am working, so i find it hard. Any suggestions
