My son recently died from the bends. While vacationing in Jamaica, he went scuba diving. Upon returning to the surface, he developed the bends. He lost consciousness. He regained consciousness at the hospital, then was transported to another hospital to enter the decompression chamber. He went into cardiac arrest while in the decompression chamber. He was a healthy, 29 year old.

I exited the water after a deep dive with no safety stop. Pain started in both shoulders within 15 minutes. Started with oxygen and ice on the shoulders, which helped relieve the pain. I felt totally exhausted the next day. Two days later, a small rash appeared on one shoulder which was tender to the touch at the top of both shoulders. Pain is subsiding slowly. No other treatment to date. I am in good health and workout regularly. A proper safety stop would have prevented my problem. I will not dive again for 14 days to be safe.
