I have had Hashimoto's thyroid disease for 18 years. I have routine blood work done every year. As long as all hormone levels are within normal range, we leave it alone. Recently, I started seeing a new doctor who gives me an anti-inflammatory shot when my thyroid swells to the point it restricts my breathing and pinches the nerves to my vocal cords. Within minutes of receiving the shot, the thyroid shrinks to a manageable size.

I'm 36 was diagnosed with Hasimoto's disease about 8 yrs ago. Before diagnosis I was very active full of energy size 8 - 10 waist. Then I started to feel really tired. I was sleeping 12 or more hours a day and struggled to get out of bed. I was working full time and studying. I kept going hot and cold, constant headaches vomiting, tremors, very fast heart rate, felt really low. My doctors kept testing for underactive thyroid kept coming back normal or just over active. In the end I got so ill I was off work in total 9 weeks. I was not eating much and throwing up, if I did eat but putting on loads of weight. I went to hospital for tests, they tried putting it down to depression it was all in my head sent me to a psychiatrist who said I was fine. In the end the test at the hospital came back with underactive thyroid and a month later I was told I had Hashimoto's. Related Reading: tremors Must Read Articles Related to Hashimoto's Disease

My daughter was diagnosed in 2008 with Hashimoto's at 13. She had symptoms of great fatigue and her throat felt swollen. She is on now on Synthroid, and is getting a reduction in medicine, I hope she wont need it for life. She has thrived and has been great.
