Jalap

How does Jalap work?

Jalap contains substances that increase water loss and cause contractions of bowel muscles to push out stool.

Are there safety concerns?

Jalap is UNSAFE. It has potent effects on the bowel which might cause irritation of the digestive tract, including diarrhea and vomiting and a loss of electrolytes such as potassium.

While jalap isn't safe for anyone to use, some people should be especially careful to avoid it.

Do not use jalap if:
  • You are pregnant or breast-feeding. Jalap can stimulate menstruation.
  • You have digestive tract problems, such as ulcers, Crohn's disease, or other conditions.
  • You have symptoms of appendicitis (abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting).
