My father and his seven siblings all had macular degeneration. My brother and I have never had any signs of the disease. My son has just been diagnosed with the disease and he is 50 years old.

On January 25, 2012 I came down with a case of Bell's Palsy, which impacted the right side of my face and the vision in my right eye. Being over 50, I was scared by this, and decided to try Ocuvite to see if it would help. After about 40 days of taking it I noticed significant improvement in my right eye. My doctor gave prescriptions for Acyclovir and Prednisone, and Ocuvite proved the most helpful so far. I'll be taking Ocuvite from now on. Related Reading: Bell's Palsy | Acyclovir | Prednisone

I was told I had beginning signs of dry macular degeneration about 8-10 years ago but had no vision difficulties until I suddenly had marked blurring of the vision in my right eye four years ago. When I got to the doctor I could not see the big E on the standard Eye chart. I was referred to a retinologist who tested me thoroughly and gave me an injection of Avastin interocularly. I was in Minneapolis at the time visiting family. I returned home to Montana and saw my present Retinologist a month later. I developed it in my left eye a year later. We have tried Lucentis but Avastin works best for me and now, four years later I have 20/60 in my right eye, 20/40 in my left eye, both with corrected lens. I get injections every 3 months in both eyes and have had stable results for about 2 years now. I read large print easily, smaller print with difficulty and a bright light, small print with a magnifying lens. I drive here in town where I know where I am going but not in rain or snow nor out of town since reading street signs etc. requires looking too much at the sign and not enough at the road! I was terrified when this first happened but I now know I can live life well with the vision I have and am grateful for the vision I have and look forward to the stem cell research they are doing so the next generation can be cured. I am 75 years old, a female, former smoker, blue eyed, fair skinned who grew up in Indian sunshine.

I am a 44 year old female, light blue eyes and I was just diagnosed with macular degeneration. My sister also only two years older than I was diagnosed about five years ago. I would like to read stories about a person about my age or younger and how they are doing. I am curious about how long I'll even have my eye sight. Scary thought.

I am a 75 year old woman diagnosed with AMD 2 years ago. Since then I have been given needles in my eyes (Lucentis) and am taking two multi vitamins a day that contain lutein. One eye is wet at present and giving me trouble. I will be on a two year once a month needle for this eye. The other (left) was wet last year but is fine now after getting the needles monthly. Of course this could change again and I could get the needles in both eyes again.

I went to my native place for a month and it's is really green there. I guess being in fresh air and no tension helped me. I can't be there forever. I have to earn my living. My vision is pretty good but not detailed. I go to the beach every day. I try to be as natural as possible. Less time on pc. I enjoy my life. :-) Must Read Articles Related to Macular Degeneration

If you think you have a medical emergency, call your doctor or 911 immediately.

I am a 75 year old woman. I was diagnosed 3 months ago with ARMD in one eye. Blurred vision, but still able to see pretty well. Seldom even need reading glasses. The eye doctor showed me a photograph of the damage, which was obvious. I could eat green leafy vegetables, but the disease is progressive and not curable. I did not necessarily believe him, but went home to do immediate computer research. I read info and began taking Preserve Max Forte supplements (2 morning, 2 night) because they seemed to make sense. Up until 5 days ago, I saw no obvious changes, but in this past week, there is no question that the MD eye is less blurry. I can read small street signs now with that eye alone which I couldn't do a month ago. I also routinely take Omega 3 supplements and Red Yeast Rice for cholesterol, and have read that Omega 3 may be useful for MD.
