My son has had migraines for 3+ yrs. They typically last 6-24 hours. He sleeps in a dark room and Tylenol helped at first. Then his migraines increased to 4-8 times a month. We started Imitrex.

Because my 6 1/2 year old son can get anywhere from 1-4 headaches/migraines a week, I hold off on Tylenol for as long as possible. He usually goes to my room which is dark, cool and quiet and "sleeps it off" for up to 20 hours! He wakes a few times for more water but NO FOOD, or to vomit. We use ice packs a lot which help, but do not eliminate the headache, especially since he says the pain moves around from head, eye sockets, ears etc. These headaches/migraines started 6 months ago. My 11 year old daughter gets a migraine once every 1-3 months. Her triggers seem to be dehydration and lack of sleep. Her first symptom is visual aura. We were lucky to discover that the smell of a very strong menthol/mint oil will stop the headache. She still usually vomits and sleeps even if the menthol smell helps with the headache.
