While holding on to the inside door handle passenger side car door, I took a fall and ripped half of my right-hand thumbnail off and fractured the tip of my thumb. The nail is now growing under the old nail and is growing a huge lump under the portion of the old nail which has not fallen off .

I thought I had a fungal infection, I was treating it with a nail vanish medicine the doctor prescribed me, I filled it every other day for a while. I wasn't getting any better. In fact, it was getting worse. I found out it wasn't a fungal infection and ever since my nail hasn't grown back. It no longer sticks to the skin and is white. It looks disgusting especially as it on the corner of my thumb. It's been like it for a number of years. It grows, but it's very brittle.

I jammed the tip of my right index finger between two pavers as I was stacking them. There was excruciating pain and significant bruising. It is now two weeks later and the swelling is reduced, pain gone, but fingernail is about 2/3rds detached and on its way 'off.'

I slammed the car door on my thumb. It hurt like crazy! The whole finger was red and swollen for two days and then stopped hurting completely. My nail was purple and yellow striped, but I didn't think it would fall off. Nine weeks later it started to catch on things, and loosen from the nail bed. I covered it with two bandages and inadvertently covered the nail with the sticky part. When I removed it, half of my nail came with it. I covered it with gauze and the tip of a latex glove. After 2-3 days, it was lifting up almost completely, attached only partially on one side. Looking at it I realized what no one had told me, the new little half moon growth had PUSHED it off! I cut most off with a scissor, what a relief. Now I am trying to find advice on having it grow back healthy, and not permanently deformed looking as my husband says it might.

My 11-year-old daughter just injured her finger walking through the doorway. Her right thumbnail was bent back and she had to put it back down. It is causing her a great amount of pain and throbbing.

About two months ago a shopping cart slammed on top of my left big toe. The nail did crack but I kept it clean. It stopped hurting after a couple days and my nail has grown normally since, just that the bruise won't go away. It doesn't hurt but it is bruised more than 25% and it's kind of freaking me out since it's been so long.

My toe nails on both big toes have redness just beneath the edge of nail under the nail. It is not a large area, just a narrow strip. At times after walking, my nails burn and throb. There is no discharge. I believe it was caused by a pedicure where nails were cut too close. I am now wearing Birkenstocks so toes do not hit end of shoe. Must Read Articles Related to Nail Injuries

I used acrylic nails for years until recently when I decided to stop. Now my nails are splitting, even when grown out some.
