Medical TreatmentThe goal of medical management of Parkinson's disease is to control signs and symptoms as long as possible, while minimizing side effects. Medications usually provide good control for 4-6 years. After this, disability progresses despite medical management, and many people develop long-term motor complications including fluctuations and an inability to control their muscles called dyskinesia. Additional causes of disability in late disease include difficulty keeping your balance and mental status changes. Your doctor will choose the best treatment for you based on your specific symptoms.
