Pinkeye (cont.)

Exams and Tests

A history and a physical examination are usually sufficient to diagnose pinkeye. If a bacterial or fungal infection is a possibility, your ophthalmologist may send some of the drainage from your eye to the laboratory for cultures to identify the bacteria or fungus. Do not be alarmed if a more extensive physical examination is required to search for other causes of infection leading to conjunctivitis.
