I was vaccinated with a scarlet fever vaccine in the mid-1930s. I had a serum sickness reaction to the horse serum proteins. The vaccines were used in Chile in 1929 during a serious outbreak that lead to over 900 deaths. Tthey were thought to be effective in their epidemic.
