Definition of Femoral veinFemoral vein: The large vein in the groin that passes with the femoral artery under the inguinal ligament to enter the abdomen, at which point it becomes the external iliac vein. The femoral vein is a continuation of the popliteal vein, and it carries blood back to the heart from the lower extremities.
