Infant MassageInfant MassageMany caregivers use infant massage to relax and promote the emotional bond with their baby. It is also used for treating babies with colic, although research is inconclusive on its effects.1 Used before an anticipated crying episode, massage may relax your baby. Also, massage may prevent crying or decrease the duration or intensity of crying. After crying has started, massage may comfort your baby and make the episode shorter. Many hospitals or child care centers provide classes on infant massage. Massage methods vary, but general recommendations stress finding the appropriate setting and using appropriate techniques.
