Reportable infectious diseases are those that spread easily and can put others in a community at risk for becoming infected. These diseases must be reported to state and local health departments by health professionals as soon as they are diagnosed.

Having a central reporting and tracking program allows for better treatment, control, and understanding of a disease. Examples of reportable infectious diseases include some sexually transmitted infections (STIs), tuberculosis, and some strains of hepatitis.
