Who Is Affected by IntussusceptionWho Is Affected by Intussusception?Intussusception mainly occurs in young children. Among children who get intussusception, about 80 out of 100 of them are younger than 2 years of age. Most new cases occur among babies 4 months to 9 months of age.1 It is more common in boys than in girls. The cause of intussusception is often unknown in children who are younger than 5 years of age. Children older than age 5 are more likely than younger children to have some other condition that leads to intussusception, such as polyps. References
