Who Is Affected by Intussusception
Who Is Affected by Intussusception?
Intussusception mainly occurs in young children. Among children who get intussusception, about 80 out of 100 of them are younger than 2 years of age. Most new cases occur among babies 4 months to 9 months of age.1 It is more common in boys than in girls.
The cause of intussusception is often unknown in children who are younger than 5 years of age. Children older than age 5 are more likely than younger children to have some other condition that leads to intussusception, such as polyps.
