Definition of Misophonia

Misophonia: literally "hatred of sound," a condition characterized by a diminished ability to tolerate certain noises, including everyday noises such as talking, chewing, or yawning. Misophonia has been only recently described, and there is little in the medical literature about the origin or management of this condition. Reportedly, sufferers of misophonia can experience violent or severe emotional changes upon exposure to the trigger noises, even rage, violent acts, or thoughts of suicide.
