Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder: A personality disorder characterized by a pervasive preoccupation with orderliness, perfectionism, and interpersonal control, beginning by early adulthood at latest.

Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder (OCPD) may be evident by:

  • preoccupation with details, rules, lists, order, organization, or schedules;
  • perfectionism;
  • excessive devotion to work to the exclusion of leisure activities and friendships;
  • inability to discard worthless objects of no sentimental value;
  • reluctance to delegate tasks or work with others unless everything is done their way;
  • miserliness in regard to oneself and others;
  • rigidity and stubbornness.

OCPD is different and distinct from obsessive-compulsive disorder, which is a type of anxiety disorder.
