My wife was a chronic asthmatic from the age of three. She managed her asthma fairly well but at one stage in her 20s and 30s she was frequently hospitalized. At about 60 she was diagnosed with COPD and passed at age 62. She was a nonsmoker and non-alcohol drinker, never ever did either. We were not informed or given information or guidance on how to manage it and not told that this was a life threatening disease, and just managed it as normal asthma. My point in all of this is make certain that your health provider helps you with a clear plan to help manage the condition, take heed of the plan and if you are not happy with the plan tell them. When you live and love someone with this condition it is devastating because basically it is a slow harsh road to death..
