I am just seeing this website for the first time. I have a blurry vision particularly my right eye so I was trying to check for the probable information to consolidate what i was diagnosed of ''subconjuctival hemorrhage.'' I am a sickle cell patient with SC Genotype and I have had surgery for the 2nd time, right hand and right leg respectively for Avascular Necrosis of the Right femur. I am writing this in order to gain some information and at the same time for others to benefit.

Suddenly saw my left eye bright red in the mirror. Scary. Called on my ophthalmologist who checked the eye with a special lens. Checked with me whether I had a history of hypertension. I had no such history. My sight is normal and there is no pain. She informed that it was subconjunctival hemorrhage. I was advised to leave it alone and this will get cleared in 3 or 4 days on it's own. I was prescribed 10 days of Vitmain C tablets, which may help I was told.

I put moisturizer on my face and it got in my eye. As the corner of my eye itched, I absent-mindedly poked it with my finger, then rubbed my eye with my finger. I now have an eye with the white part colored red from the nose to underneath the pupil. No pain or loss of vision, but bathing it with warm water.

I noticed my left eye was bright red in the corner. When I woke up the next day, about half was bright red. I called the ophthalmologist office and described the situation, that my eye was bright red, but did not hurt and I did nothing to injure it. Was told it was not serious and there was nothing that could be done for it, and it would go away on its own in 1-2 weeks, so am just wearing sunglasses wherever I go to avoid having to talk about it.

Today I noticed my left eye suddenly had blood in the entire white. I have been taking warfarin a blood thinner for the past 6 weeks and the dose was increased since it hasn't been where the clinic wants it to be which is double the clotting time of a normal blood test. This is probably the reason. I was told by my doctor to go to the urgent care because she was unable to see me. I spoke with the advice nurse from my insurance and she said if I am not having any other symptoms, leave it alone or put on a warm compress. Unless I have other symptoms tomorrow, I'll just leave it alone.

My diagnosis was major subconjunctival hemorrhage. It was the worse the optometrist had ever seen. My course of treatment was to stop taking Motrin which can thin the blood. Warm compresses and rest for the eye; Taking vitamins specifically for the eye; and soothing eye drops, not the kind that gets rid of red eye, but something to stop it from drying out.

Sounds strange, but I stopped eating walnuts and the hemorrhage in my eyes stopped. I loved walnuts but an ophthalmologist mentioned walnuts as a possible cause. I stopped eating them and it worked.
