I fell 18 months ago whilst collecting crabs with the kids on holiday in Ireland. My feet slipped from underneath me and fell onto a rock. I had never felt such pain in my life. I felt sick and faint. I feel it is something you can only understand if you have felt it yourself. At the hospital in Ireland I was examined and as the consultant pressed down near the bottom of my spine towards my coccyx I threw up with the intense pain. I was told my cocxys was broken and prescribed pain relief. I was unable to sit or bend to dress myself for the rest of the holiday and going to the toilet was horrendous. On returning to the UK I had an x-ray and was told my coccyx was fractured and chipped. This has since caused my pelvis to require realigning numerous times and I still have physio. I take tramadol most days to ease the pain. Sometimes I get so annoyed, I am 31 and yet I can't do whatever I want with the kids and when I do, like going for a bike ride for example, the pain afterwards is unreal. Breaking my coccyx has totally changed every area of my life. I read so many things online of how it should take maybe around 6 months to recover yet I just wish I could see the day.

I slipped on a sidewalk during a heavy rain and landed right on my bum. I'm honestly a pretty clumsy person and have had similar falls on at least two other occasions (once rollerblading and once down the stairs). I fell in late January. It is now early April. I haven't been to a doctor. I had no visible bruising, even immediately after the fall (but then I don't bruise much). It is uncomfortable to sit, but it is agonizing to go from sitting to standing, slightly less so to go from standing to sitting, and seems to be getting worse. The other two falls I had felt about the same--hurt to get up out of a chair--but got better in a few weeks at most. I don't have health insurance, but I'm starting to think I'm going to have to suck it up and pay to see an orthopedist. These comments about life-long pain and tailbone injury changing someone's life have me really concerned.

I am an overweight male (130 kg), was walking to college on a chilly morning and slipped on the ice. I fell not more than a foot (lost balance and landed on my knee and then fell backward). I got up and as if nothing had happened walked for another mile. While reaching the college I felt as if there was something brushing between my buttocks. I still kept on going. I attended my class and when started to get up. I had an excruciating pain between the cheeks and I couldn't get up. My body would not support me. I had walked up from nasty motorcycle accidents but this pain was difficult to bear. I don't know how I reached my home that day. I went to a medical center and they said I had fractured my tail bone and nothing could be done. I called up my orthopedic surgeon in India and was advised rest and not to sit to reduce the recovery time (sitting is an integral part of a person's day to day routine). But what was the best part was that the medicine he prescribed was amazing. I was advised to use DOLONEX DT piroxicam tablets 20 mg. I was on this medicine was about twenty days. After this 20 day period I stopped it for a while to assess the pain and discomfort. The pain is bearable now and I am off the medicine. What the medicine does is tap the pain and you wouldn't know the pain existed and somehow not knowing the pain reduced my recovery time. I did ask for some more from the chemist shop or the drug marts here in Canada and they refused because I did not have a prescription from a Canadian doctor. What I would like to suggest the people suffering from this is to try out the medicine. I do not know of the side effects or any allergies to this medicine (but frankly speaking I was not able to bear the pain), but it worked wonders.

My tail bone was fractured in 1994. I presently work 10-hour shifts, sitting all day, and the chronic bad pain hardly subsides. I take a prescription anti-inflammatory and Tramadol. It's not the remedy I want to settle for.

Somehow a few days ago my tailbone started hurting and I didn't remember falling and hurting it. I jumped my horses and I think it is going to get really worst. It was hurting bad at school because every time I tried getting up from a chair, it started hurting so bad! I injured my tailbone a year (or more) ago and this is the second time I injured it.

A few days ago I fell down in my front yard, while stepping outside my front door (somehow lost my balance). I fell flat on my back, with my knees up, and my tailbone hit flat on a large flagstone. Since then I have been in pain and experienced some throbbing after sitting down for extended periods of time. My brother is an EMT and he advised me to ice it the first few days, and then he advised me to apply heat to speed healing. The icing helped to numb the pain. It felt so good after icing that I was afraid to add the heat, thinking the opposite would occur. I was wrong! It felt so good to apply some heat!
