Tonsillitis Prognosis

Most cases of tonsillitis go away within 7-10 days. When treated with penicillin, strep throat can be cured about 90% of the time with a single course of antibiotics. However, some people may develop rheumatoid arthritis from bacterial-caused tonsillitis and thus may have only a fair prognosis.
