Plantar Warts Plantar warts are painful warts on the sole of the foot. They are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). Symptoms and signs of plantar warts include foot and leg pain and flat, firm, warty lesions with pinpoint dark spots on the sole of the foot. Treatment may involve applying moleskin around the wart and applying salicylic acid directly to the wart.
