Heat Cramps, Heat Exhaustion, or Heat Stroke Symptoms

  • Heat cramps: Pain and cramps occur in the muscles.

  • Heat exhaustion: Symptoms include sweating; moist, pale, clammy skin; fatigue; headache; dizziness; shallow breathing; and a weak, rapid pulse. People who experience heat exhaustion are tired but do not have mental status changes such as confusion.

  • Heat stroke: The skin is flushed, hot, and dry, and the temperature may be elevated. The person experiencing heat stroke may be confused; develop seizures; have shallow breathing; and have a weak, rapid pulse.
