What is cyclizine (Bonine For Kids, Cyclivert, Marezine)?

Cyclizine is used to treat or prevent nausea, vomiting, or dizziness caused by motion sickness.

Cyclizine may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

What are the possible side effects of cyclizine (Bonine For Kids, Cyclivert, Marezine)?

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using cyclizine and call your doctor at once if you have:

  • painful or difficult urination;
  • little or no urinating;
  • pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest; or
  • a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out.

You should not use cyclizine if you are allergic to it.

To make sure cyclizine is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:

FDA pregnancy category B. Cyclizine is not expected to harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.

It is not known whether cyclizine passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

Cyclizine should not be given to a child younger than 6 years old.

Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

The chewable tablet must be chewed before you swallow it.

What happens if I miss a dose (Bonine For Kids, Cyclivert, Marezine)?

Since cyclizine is used when needed, you may not be on a dosing schedule. If you are on a schedule, use the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose (Bonine For Kids, Cyclivert, Marezine)?

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.

Overdose symptoms may include extreme drowsiness, confusion, agitation, hallucinations, rapid heartbeats, fever, slowed breathing, seizure (convulsions), and uncontrollable movements of your lips, tongue, or face.

What should I avoid while taking cyclizine (Bonine For Kids, Cyclivert, Marezine)?

This medication may cause blurred vision and may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be alert and able to see clearly.

Drinking alcohol can increase certain side effects of cyclizine.

What other drugs will affect cyclizine (Bonine For Kids, Cyclivert, Marezine)?

Taking this medicine with other drugs that make you sleepy or slow your breathing can worsen these effects. Ask your doctor before taking cyclizine with a sleeping pill, narcotic pain medicine, muscle relaxer, or medicine for anxiety, depression, or seizures.

Other drugs may interact with cyclizine, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Tell each of your health care providers about all medicines you use now and any medicine you start or stop using.
