What is mirabegron (Myrbetriq)?

Mirabegron is used to treat overactive bladder with symptoms of frequent or urgent urination and urinary incontinence.

Mirabegron is sometimes used together with another medicine called solifenacin (Vesicare).

Mirabegron may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

What are the possible side effects of mirabegron (Myrbetriq)?

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using mirabegron and call your doctor at once if you have:

  • fast or pounding heartbeats;
  • pain or burning when you urinate;
  • painful or difficult urination; or
  • dangerously high blood pressure--severe headache, blurred vision, pounding in your neck or ears.

What is the most important information I should know about mirabegron (Myrbetriq)?

You should not use mirabegron if you have uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure).

What should I discuss with my healthcare provider before taking mirabegron (Myrbetriq)?

You should not use mirabegron if you are allergic to it, or if you have uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure).

Tell your doctor if you have ever had:

  • high blood pressure;
  • bladder obstruction or other urination problems;
  • trouble emptying your bladder (very little urine or a weak stream of urine);
  • kidney disease; or
  • liver disease.

It is not known whether this medicine will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

It may not be safe to breastfeed while using this medicine. Ask your doctor about any risk.

Mirabegron is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.

How should I take mirabegron (Myrbetriq)?

Follow all directions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Use the medicine exactly as directed.

Take this medicine with a full glass of water.

If you take mirabegron with solifenacin, take both medicines at the same time each day.

You may take these medicines with or without food.

Swallow the tablet whole and do not crush, chew, or break it.

Your blood pressure will need to be checked often.

It may take up to 8 weeks before your symptoms improve. Keep using the medication as directed and tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve.

Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep the bottle closed when not in use.

Skip the missed dose and use your next dose at the regular time. Do not use two doses at one time.
