Also called Kaposi varicelliform eruption, eczema herpeticum is a painful, blistering rash caused by the herpes simplex virus and resembles the chickenpox. It is more common in young children, particularly those who have atopic dermatitis (AD). It usually appears on the face and neck but can develop elsewhere on the body. It can be serious so should be treated right away with antiviral medications.
