Meningococcemia is a serious type of blood poisoning caused by the Neisseria meningitidis bacteria. A significant rash can develop as the infection damages blood vessels throughout the body. This infection is in an 11-year-old boy and is characterized by the star-like rash that is cherry red with a bluish tint.
