Picture of Second Trimester (20 Weeks)

This photo shows a baby at 20 weeks gestational age during the second trimester of pregnancy. At this stage:
- The baby is active and you may feel him or her moving more.
- The baby is enveloped in a protective coating called vernix and lanugo, fine hair. These protect developing skin that lies underneath.
- Fingernails, toenails, eyebrows, and eyelashes have formed. The baby is capable of scratching him or herself.
- The baby is able to hear and swallow at this stage.
- The baby weighs approximately 9 ounces and is about 6 inches long at this stage.
