Picture of Warts

Warts are bumpy, noncancerous growths that appear on areas of the skin infected by human papillomavirus (HPV). Warts are very contagious. Having direct contact with a wart or with something that has touched a wart can spread the virus that causes the growths. There is no cure for the virus that causes warts. Prompt diagnosis and treatment of warts can reduce the risk of the virus spreading to other areas and causing new warts.
