I went a long time before being diagnosed with Lyme disease. I was going to the doctor every week back in 1997 and they thought I was a hypochondriac. My doctor then put me on Klonopin, and they tested me for everything including my heart you name it, Holter monitor overnight, etc. Then in the summer of 1998 I couldn't move. I was shaking in pain in the fetal position. I was in the best shape of my life before this, working out 3 to 4 times a week, all muscle and everything. My nephew was spending the summer at my home and he was amazed how bad I went downhill. They treated me and did a spinal tap and thanks to the emergency room doctor and nurses I was diagnosed with late stage Lyme disease. The doctor put it simply to me as Lyme spinal meningitis; my heart was skipping beats. They put a PICC line in my right arm, it took 3 shunts and turns out the PICC line went the wrong direction and was in my jugular, so then I was off to angioplasty. They went through my groin and pulled the line from my jugular into my heart. With the intravenous Rocephin for thirty days through the PICC line, after about 10 days my skull breaking headache started to be alleviated. It has been almost 20 years since and I have so many joint problems now. I did get better after about 3 months back in 1998, but the Lyme already did its damage. My treatment was successful to a point but I am left with seriously aged joints and I can't afford anymore surgery. I hope you can learn a little from what I went through.

I had Lyme disease when I was 16 and was never treated. I can remember the bull's eye rash covering my entire body. I was so weak I couldn't walk without help. Now I am 60 and have RA.
