I had my gallbladder removed and third day post operation I had an acute onset of severe back pain. I could not lie down on my back or sit on a chair due to the severity of the pain. The pain was in my lower back region spreading across both hips. I used tramadol. Voltarol and diazepam for the pain which only touched the surface. After two visits to the doctor I asked for an x-ray and discovered the vertebral compression fracture. It has been seven weeks and the pain is not as severe now. However it gets worse at night and disturbs my sleep. I have osteoporosis diagnosed when I was 44 probable due to an early menopause which started at 39. Regrettable I never took my medication for osteoporosis. I am a nurse and I am on sick leave at the moment. I do a lot of bending and lifting at work and I am terrified to go back in case I fracture more vertebrae. I did not have a fall and wondered if the fracture happened during the procedure or happened during coughing.

Initially I experienced little or no symptoms of my vertebral compression fracture, then began having a burning, sharp on and off pain. I found it very difficult to stand on my feet for any period of time. Lastly I lost any sensation of needing to have a bowel movement, I did not go for 2 weeks! My doctor put me on Miralax which worked to get me moving; but I still have no feeling of having to go.

I had severe pain and nausea when I had the vertebral compression fracture.

I fractured my T12 vertebrae as the result of a fall last year. I had kyphoplasty 10 months ago for my vertebral compression fracture but still have daily pain. I don't want to take prescription pain medicines so I've been toughing it out. I plan to explore physical therapy very soon.

I was wondering what symptom others have had. My upper back feels like the vertebrae are moving. My thighs are so painful it is hard to walk. I broke seven vertebrae and four ribs due to being thrown from a horse.
